Slippery Rock University Mourns Loss Of 2 Seniors

SLIPPER ROCK TOWNSHIP (KDKA) - Slippery Rock University is mourning the loss of two seniors, who died over the weekend, in separate incidents.

John Stufflebeam, 21, of Warren, Pa., was killed early Saturday morning, when the SUV he was in was hit by a truck, on Route 8 near Branchton Road in Slippery Rock Township.

Stufflebeam was majoring in physical education and was a graduate of Warren Area High School, where he played football, was on the track team and was captain of the wrestling team.

SRU spokeswoman Rita Abent told KDKA-TV, "Stufflebeam was a very active young man on campus. He hosted various events, gave tours, and met visitors who came to the university."

State police said the driver of the vehicle Stufflebeam was riding in ran a stop sign, and was hit by a truck.

The accident happened at the same Route 8 intersection where a family of five from North Carolina was killed in a traffic accident eight years ago.

Also over the weekend, another 21-year old SRU senior, Jack Hill Jr., a native of New Jersey, collapsed at Morrow Field House, where he died during a basketball conditioning session.
