Slick Conditions Slow Morning Commute
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Pittsburgh's streets are notoriously steep, which made for some nerve-wracking moments for drivers Tuesday morning.
While many of the streets were just wet and not icy, there were some trouble spots around Pittsburgh.
A pickup truck rolled down a hill on Industry Street in Allentown and struck a utility pole.
Sue Magnes said the emergency brake was on and her truck was in park. She was not in the vehicle at the time and is baffled at how it would have rolled down the hill.
In Lincoln-Lemington, several motorists had to abandon their vehicles on the steep side of Lemington Avenue. They were forced to wait for police and tow truck drivers to come to the rescue because of icy conditions.
Carrick was another area that saw ice pile up on the sidewalks and roads.
"Salt and ice everywhere. It's just like an ice skating rink out here," Mike Sheehan said.
Two weeks ago, Fallowfield Avenue in Beechview resembled a demolition derby. Ice caused several cars to spin out of control and crash.
On Tuesday, several brave drivers inched their way down the hill.
"We've lived on that street for years and when it gets like this you never know if it's going to change at any minute. So, I kind of took my time," Carol Walsh said.
