Police Investigating Shooting In McKeesport

MCKEESPORT (KDKA) -- Police are investigating a shooting in McKeesport.

Around 5:15 p.m., police responded to the 500 block of Sixth Street after the report of a shooting.

Police say the victim was driving a silver Cadillac when he was shot in the neck through the passenger-side window. No one else was in the car.

Then, police say he drove himself to UPMC McKeesport's ER and walked inside to get help before he was flown by helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, where at last check he was in stable condition.

A few hours later, police from both McKeesport and the county were still on scene collecting evidence. They say seven shell casings were found.

In a parking lot nearby, young children from a local youth ministry were playing ball.

Youth Pastor James Brown, with Rainbow Assembly of God, says the shooting happened about 30 minutes before the kids stepped outside to play.

"We have teenagers playing out there while going through evidence. Danger was gone," Brown said.

Despite the shootings that McKeesport has recently been plagued with, he said it's important for the kids and teens to stay focused.

"Just try to teach them, in the community where they live, things happen. They just gotta keep moving. Can't be afraid of your surroundings," Brown said.

In order to prevent violence, Brown says being proactive is key.

"Try to teach them a better way of handling things. Talk it out by communicating," Brown said.

Allegheny County Police have taken over this investigation.

They believe the shooting was targeted. They said the victim did not cooperate with police and they don't know who the suspects are at this time.

Police are looking for a small, red car they saw speeding away.

At last check, no witnesses have come forward.

The Allegheny County Police Department's Homicide Unit is investigating.
