Sidney Crosby Not Asked To Carry Canadian Flag At Olympic Opening Ceremony
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - There was much speculation that like Boston Bruins star Zdeno Chara would be doing for Slovakia in the Olympics, Sidney Crosby would be carrying the Canadian flag at the opening ceremony for the 2014 Winter Olympics.
The problem with this would be that Crosby would have to miss a Penguins game in order to make it to the ceremony, and many fans have voiced their opinion saying they wouldn't be okay with that.
Today though, Rosie DiManno of The Toronto Star wrote that Steve Podborski made the announcement on behalf of the Canadian Olympic Committee that it would be veteran women's hockey player Hayley Wickenheiser, a four-time Winter Olympian that would be carrying the flag at the opening ceremony.
DiManno also wrote that if Crosby were asked to carry the Canadian flag, the Penguins would have been willing to let him leave early for the Olympics and miss one of the team's games.
