Sid Bream Going To Game, Hoping For A Pirates Win In Play-In Game
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - Despite his history playing against the Pirates, former Pirate Sid Bream says he's still pulling for the Pirates in the playoffs and is even more excited for their fans to get the playoff team they've long deserved.
"I'm excited not only for the Pittsburgh Pirate baseball club but I'm more excited for the Pittsburgh Pirates fans," Bream said. "This city has been waiting a long time to be able to have this day come upon them, and I'm more excited probably for them than I am for the Pittsburgh Pirates."
Bream has always been open to talking about the 1992 series in which he helped the Braves get past the Pirates, and tells us how often he hears from fans about that play.
"Everyday," he says. "Any time that I go out, I'm amongst people in the public, you know somebody is going to come up and tell me, 'you killed me. You just messed up my whole day, my whole year for 20 years.'I've heard so many stories over the year, it's incredible."
Bream also went on to talk about the moves Pirates management made to turn this team into a contender, and how happy it made him to see their commitment.
"I think that management or ownership has finally done something to allow that to happen," he said. "That's what I've been so grateful for over the last couple of years. When they signed McCutchen to a long-term contract, I thought finally for the first time they were saying, we want this team to win. When they brought in AJ Burnett, I thought they were saying finally, they want to win."
Things wrapped up with Bream talking about the exchanges he has on a regular basis with Manager Clint Hurdle, how excited he is to have tickets to their play-in game against the Reds and why he turned down the Braves' offer to have him throw out the first pitch if the Braves and Pirates meet in the playoffs.
