Shoppers Hit Local Stores, Malls Overnight For Black Friday Deals
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The turkey dinner is done and that means it's time to shop till you drop. That's just what many people did overnight and continue to do this morning.
Black Friday is officially underway and local stores and malls are packed with people who either stayed up all night or got a very early start just for a chance to get some great deals.
Target stores around the area opened late Thursday night as people camped out for hours just to be the first ones inside.
Same goes for Best Buy stores where many shoppers, eager to grab smartphones, televisions, lap tops and tablets, camped out - some for days - just to be the first ones into the store.
But it's not only electronics that are huge this holiday season, as always, its toys too.
The Toy 'R Us in Cranberry also opened late Thursday night and there was a steady stream of people in and out of the store overnight buying up this year's hot items for kids.
Meanwhile, over at the Monroeville Mall, shoppers have been in and out all night. Many stores opened there at midnight.
Jessica, who works at the Rue 21 store in the mall, said she's had a very busy but fun night.
"We had a rush at midnight until about 3 a.m. and then it slowed down a little bit, but we're hoping to pick back up here by five or six," said Jessica. "I didn't have much sleep after my turkey last night, but we're going to keep going and keep Gloria Jean's busy with our coffee orders this morning."
According to one customer, there was also a bit of a frenzy at the Victoria's Secret at the mall.
"It was so crazy," said Taylor, a Black Friday shopper. "The lines were like an hour wait, and I saw a fight in line, someone cutting and it was bad."
Even though many stores were open overnight, there were still plenty of traffic headaches shoppers had to deal with.
For example, people were waiting about an hour to get out of the parking lots at the Tanger Outlets in Washington County.
Also, McKnight Road in the North Hills had about as much traffic at midnight as it sees during a regular afternoon. Many shoppers hit the stores along McKnight and Ross Park Mall for the early Black Friday deals.
