Shoppers Choose Deals Over Turkey

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Shoppers are putting down the turkey to take advantage of Thanksgiving deals.

Black Friday openings have crept earlier and earlier over the past few years.

Some are well underway tonight.

Many shoppers in our area didn't wait for Black Friday deals; they stood in long lines to take advantage of bargains stores are now offering Thanksgiving night.

The Toy "R" Us in Ross Township had a line that stretched across the front of the store, down one side and into the parking lot by the time doors opened at 8 p.m.

"I think we're all fools," deal seeker Sue Morrone of Shaler said with a laugh. "But it's exciting though."

Ross Township Police were there to make sure everything stayed orderly.

People were given tickets for popular items to make sure there was no fighting.

Target opened its doors at 9 p.m.

Kmart offered deals starting at 8 p.m.

The line outside Best Buy stretched for several store fronts.

People brought chairs to sit in and blankets to help them stay warm until the doors open at midnight.

"Keep them in the trunk of the car," Antwaunai Gurlui of Lawrenceville said. "You never know when you're going to need them."

With just about an hour until many stores open, the lines continue to grow.
