Shooting Victim's Father: "I Want Some Justice For My Son"
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The parents of a Pittsburgh man marched through the streets of local neighborhoods Saturday, asking for the public's help in finding the person who shot and killed their son.
The shooting happened in early April and so far there is no motive and no suspects.
The family of 19-year-old Kevin Buchanan took to the streets on Saturday hoping someone will tell police what they know about his murder.
"I want some justice for my son and all the other victims out here; for these kids to put down those guns," said Kevin Darnell Buchanan, Sr. "They're just killing each other for no reason."
Buchanan was found gunned down at a home on the South Side Slopes on April 2. Police say they have no motive or suspect, but the family thinks someone knows what happened.
"Somebody [knows] something, they just don't want to say nothing," the victim's father added. "I don't know what you're scared of; ain't no snitching when it comes to murder."
"I wish they would come forward because he would do it for them – that's the type of guy he was," added Renee Buchanan, Kevin's mother.
They marched from the Lighthouse Cathedral through the Arlington area trying to bring more attention to the senseless murder of Kevin and other young African American men.
"It has to stop; there's so many children. My coworker's son, his name was Kevin from Wilkinsburg, got killed at the bus stop," said Charisse Buchanan, the victim's aunt. "Just everyday there's something with guns. Just stop it."
"We can't expect the police to do everything; they can only do so much," Melvin McCain, Kevin's cousin, added. "It's time for us to take to the streets and be responsible and take our neighborhoods back."
The family is praying that someone in the community will give them some closure by helping police bring the person who murdered their son to justice.
