Suspect Sought After Shooting Victim Crashes Car, Leading To SWAT Incident

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Pittsburgh Police continue to search for a suspect after a car accident prompted the SWAT team to surround an apartment building Thursday evening.

It was a swift response by Pittsburgh Police and the SWAT team.

More than a dozen officers closed in on the apartment on Oak Hill Drive in West Oakland, streets were blocked off and the neighborhood was locked down.

"Police everywhere," said Richie Pittsburgh, a neighborhood resident. "I just said, it doesn't look like Christmas anymore."

But it didn't start there.

Around 6:30 p.m., a jitney driver was found in a car off of Kirkpatrick Street in the Hill District. The car had crashed over an embankment. The victim had been shot in the leg.

The call for the jitney came from the home on Oak Hill Drive.

"That's what we believe at this time, is that this gentleman picked up a jitney fare, and that was the male who had shot him," Pittsburgh Police Lt. Jason Lando said.

"Like every other neighborhood has its problems, but this is loving people and hopefully the situation doesn't get out of control," added Pittsburgh.

After nearly two hours, it did come to an end. Police made entry, but the suspect was nowhere to be found.

"We're looking for a black male who is about 5-foot-11 to 6-feet tall," said Lt. Lando. "He's got some facial hair."
