Shooting Leads To Car Crash In McKeesport
McKEESPORT (KDKA) -- Allegheny County Police said a 23-year-old man is recovering after he was shot while driving in his car in McKeesport Friday night around 10:08 p.m.
For neighbors who lived close by to the incident, it's not the first time that they have experienced gunfire so close to home.
"You're not even safe to walk outside without getting shot," neighbor Dorothy Demer said.
McKeesport Police were called the scene near the corner of Colfax Street and Soles Street for shots fired.
"All I heard was like three loud booms, and that was it," neighbor Roger Wilson said.
Officers at the scene learned the man was shot in the head and driven to the hospital. A woman claiming to be the victim's mother told KDKA he is doing fine.
Allegheny County Police were called in to assist the investigation.
"We're scared right now. My mom could not sleep because we are scared," Melinda Callahan said.
Investigators said the victim was leaving a relative's house in the 1000 block of Soles. As he got into the car, two unknown people started shooting at his vehicle. He tried to reverse away from the attackers before getting shot and hitting the utility pole. The victim then ran and flagged down a car to take him to the hospital.
"It's just getting really bad out here," Callahan said.
She heard the gunfire outside her family's house and saw where the car hit the pole. It's not the first time they've experienced gunshots so close to home.
"A while back ago there was a drive-by up on Evans, and we got grazed on the house," she said. "We have bullet holes."
At this point, police have no suspects or motive.
