Sharpsburg Woman Charged, Accused In Inappropriate Relationship With Teen
SHARPSBURG (KDKA) -- Sharpsburg Police and Allegheny County Police took a 45-year-old Sharpsburg woman into custody on Tuesday on charges of having an ongoing, inappropriate relationship with a teenage boy.
Police in Sharpsburg became aware of a sexual assault case involving a juvenile late last month. That's when they requested help from the Allegheny County Police.
Susan Sundo, 45, of Sharpsburg, was arrested Tuesday on multiple charges including statutory sexual assault, corruption of a minor and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse.
According to the criminal complaint, Sundo is accused of having a six-month sexual relationship with a 15-year-old boy who she became acquainted with through her association with the Sharpsburg Recreation Center and the Aspinwall Youth Baseball Association.
At the Sharpsburg Municipal Building on Tuesday night, Borough Council voted to remove her from her duties running the recreation center because of the seriousness of the charges.
"She ran the recreation center and she no longer does," said Michael Witherel, the Sharpsburg Borough solicitor. "As soon a council was told about this in executive session by the chief of police – they were filled in on the details – and in an abundance of caution, recognizing that these are charges - nothing proven yet, but the borough council took immediate action at the public meeting then to remove her."
Investigators said the alleged incidents occurred during sleepovers at Sundo's Sharpsburg home and in the backseat of her SUV in a parking lot in Aspinwall.
For Sharpsburg officials, news of the arrest brought a sense of numbness and shock.
"Surprised, and if it's true, disappointed," said Sharpsburg Borough Council President Renee Procopio.
Sundo was arraigned Tuesday night. She is being held on $20,000 bond and will undergo evaluation at a behavioral clinic.
