Shaler Twp. Police: Man Accused Of Taking Money Upfront For Home Improvement Work He Wouldn't Finish
SHALER TOWNSHIP, Pa. (KDKA) - Local police are issuing a "community alert" about a construction company that's allegedly taking money up front but not completing any work.
In a Facebook post on Friday, Shaler Township Police Department says they are currently investigating fraudulent home improvement practices allegedly used by Gerald Conklin under the business name G&C Construction.
Police say there are four incidents under investigation right now. In many of the cases, police accuse Conklin of taking down payments and then never "substantially" completing any of the agreed-upon work.
He's charged in three the four cases so far, police say.
He would allegedly offer excuses as to why the work wasn't completed, and then he wouldn't finish it.
In one case, Conklin agreed to work on three sheds.
He allegedly started the work but stopped coming in August 2019.
The victims said several calls to Conklin went unanswered.
A second victim states he hired Conklin to renovate his bathroom in May 2019.
Conklin and his workers stopped coming before the project was completed.
The victim told police he had to hire another contractor to finish the job.
A third victim stated he paid Conklin $1,700 for a job that was never started
Overall, police believe Conklin has scammed his three victims out of thousands of dollars.
Court records show Conklin has a lengthy history of facing charges for incomplete home improvement work and writing bad checks.
Now they're asking any additional alleged victims from G&C Construction to call police at 412-492-2222.
