Severe Storms Moving Across Pittsburgh Area
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Springtime in Pittsburgh usually means storms, and another round of severe weather has moved into the area this evening.
A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued through 8:30 p.m. for parts of Allegheny, Washington and Westmoreland counties.
The National Weather Service this afternoon issued Severe Thunderstorm Watch for much of the area through 11 p.m.
The counties include: Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Clarion, Fayette, Forest, Greene, Indiana, Jefferson, Lawrence, Mercer, Venango, Washington and Westmoreland.
Some counties in West Virginia are also under the watch. Those places include: Brooke, Hancock, Marshall, Monongalia and Ohio counties.
A Flash Flood Warning has also been issued for Allegheny, Beaver, Washington and Westmoreland counties through 11:15 p.m.
There are reports of flooding on Harrison Street Extension in Glassport, Washington Street in Dravosburg, on Washington Boulevard between Monroe Avenue and San Juan Drive, Streets Run Road at Chapons Greenhouse in Baldwin, the West End Bridge on the South Side and on Clairton Boulevard and N. Lewis Run Road in Pleasant Hills.
KDKA's Jon Burnett says these storms could bring gusty winds, hail, thunder and lightning.
"Here's what we're looking at. Tonight, the possibility exists for severe thunderstorms – heavy, let's call it, thunderstorms – with hail, gusty winds, vivid cloud to ground lightning," said Burnett. "No tornados associated with this system as it is moving through the mid-west and Ohio Valley and into our neck of the woods in the next couple of hours."
He says tonight we'll have mostly cloudy skies and a low of 51.
Meanwhile, later in the week, another round of storms could be heading this way.
"Another storm system, separate from the one we're dealing with today, will be pulling out of the southern plains and headed right through the Ohio Valley in the Great Lakes states, and we'll be on the tail end of that system," Burnett said. "There could be some big storms associated with it late Thursday night and on into Friday."
