Severe Thunderstorm Watch In Effect For Pittsburgh Region

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Some severe weather is closing in on our area, which has prompted an alert.

According to the National Weather Service, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for parts of Pennsylvania and West Virginia until 9 p.m.

In Pennsylvania, the warning is effect for Allegheny, Armstrong, Butler, Clarion, Greene, Indiana, Jefferson, Venango and Washington counties.

"As we head down through the evening, we will see activity, possibly a thunderstorm or two," said KDKA Chief Meteorologist Jeff Verszyla. "Three counties under a Thunderstorm Watch until early this evening ... and then the rest of the watch is across the state of Ohio."

In West Virginia, the watch is in effect for Brooke, Hancock, Marshall and Ohio counties.

These alerts are in addition to the Air Quality Action day that was declared Friday morning.

That alert covers Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Washington and Westmoreland counties.

"So down through the evening, scattered showers and thunderstorms through the early part of the evening and then I think things are going to quiet down, but we'll see linger clouds overnight," said Verszyla.
