Seton Hill Lacrosse Team Emotional Heading Into First Game After Fatal Crash
GREENSBURG (KDKA) -- Thursday is the first game for the Seton Hill University's women's lacrosse team since their coach was killed when the team bus crashed on the Pennsylvania Turnpike last March.
Kristina Quigley, who was pregnant, died after the bus went off the highway and crashed into a tree. The bus driver also died.
"They're going to struggle every day," said new coach Courtney Grove. "But we're just going to face that adversity and struggle and keep moving forward."
Grove says the team is ready to play again.
"I want it as normal as possible for the girls. I want them to walk out on the field like they did every year before the accident," said Grove.
One of her first goals was to get the team back on a bus for the first time since the crash.
It happened to be a bus ride to Duquesne University for a scrimmage.
"It was tough, but at the same time, it was a great process for them," said Grove. "It allowed them to see that it's okay, and everything will be okay."
She says she's not sure what she'll say to her team in the locker room Thursday before the home game, but she says it will come from her heart.
As for the cause of the crash, investigators said at one point the bus driver may have had a heart attack.
