Sens Analyst, Hall Of Famer Denis Potvin: Sens Always Confident
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) – NHL hall of fame defenseman and Ottawa Senators television color commentator Denis Potvin joined Starkey, Miller, and Mueller on Monday to help the guys preview the Penguins vs. Senators second round series.
Potvin explained that, much like the Islanders did against the Penguins, the Senators used strength and physical play to hang with the favored Canadiens.
"The Ottawa Senators have a huge defense," Potvin explained. "I think that was a big asset."
Potvin was impressed by Senators' depth this year, and noted that the team stayed hard to beat throughout the season despite injuries to key players like Erik Karlsson and Jason Spezza.
"It didn't matter what the parts were- they got it done," Potvin said.
He thinks the coaching staff played a huge role in making this happen.
"Rarely did I see… any of those young guys seem to go out on the ice without a certain level of confidence," Potvin said. "There was not a lot of hesitancy. The coaching staff seems to put together a plan where things are simple. Don't sort of overload the machinery, just go out and do what we're asking you do to."
