Seneca Valley School District adding new security measures to schools
JACKSON TOWNSHIP (KDKA) - New security measures are coming to schools in the Seneca Valley School District, according to the district in an e-mail sent out to the community.
A new K-12 weapons detection system is going to replace the mobile metal detectors that exist in all schools. It will be similar to what people see at sporting events and concerts. Other changes include updates to visitor practices as well.
According to the district, every visitor to any school in the Seneca Valley school district will be screened by the system before being allowed into the building. In addition to visitors and students during the day, officials will use this updated system for sporting events, performances in the theatre, and graduation.
In addition to the security measures, the school district is adding a vape detection unit across the secondary campus, which includes grades 7-12.
School officials cite that this change will help enhance security and minimize disruption during the school day. Seneca Valley says it will provide comprehensive training for the staff so the changes are done effectively.
The district said these changes are coming in the next month.
