Security Guard Arrested In Shooting Of Robbery Suspect
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Pittsburgh Police have charged 53-year-old John Carter of Verona with aggravated assault and recklessly endangering another person.
Carter, who works as a private security guard, shot and wounded a robbery suspect earlier this month on Hamilton Avenue in the city's Homewood neighborhood.
The robbery took place outside Baker's Market where a Triangle Candy and Tobacco Co. delivery truck had made a stop and was parked.
Police say that even though Carter had a license to carry a firearm, there were "inconsistencies" in the account of the shooting he originally provided investigators.
The robbery suspect was found sitting on a porch near the scene and was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Surveillance video from a Port Authority bus showed the inconsistencies, and after conferring with the Allegheny County District Attorney's Office, a decision was made to charge Carter.
He is now jailed on $5,000 straight cash bond.
