Security Changes Being Discussed After Deadly Shooting Outside "The O"
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Security changes are in the works at the landmark Original Hot Dog Shop in Pittsburgh's Oakland section after a man was shot and killed near the restaurant earlier this month.
Hours of operation and security manpower are under discussion.
Authorities say there's been an increase in crime around "The O" since it stopped using off-duty police for late-night security.
There were meetings Thursday on just what security changes may come as a result of that homicide earlier this month.
The Allegheny County District Attorney's Office and representatives from the restaurant first began meetings not long after former Slippery Rock University football player Zach Sheridan was shot as he ran across Forbes Avenue from the Dunkin' Donuts shop after an altercation that began at "The O."
Police have charged Isaiah Smith with the homicide.
The District Attorney released photos to boost his argument that Smith should face first-degree murder charges since Sheridan was shot in the back running away, in spite of defense claims that Smith was attacked earlier.
Authorities say there has been an increase in crime around the Original Hot Dog Shop that began to spike after the restaurant no longer used off-duty city police for security.
An attorney for the Original Hot Dog Shop has said his establishment has been working diligently with authorities to find a solution.
