School Van Crashes Into Eat'n Park In Murrysville, 3 Students Injured
MURRYSVILLE (KDKA) - Three Franklin Regional High School students were injured when their school van crashed into the Eat'n Park in Murrysville on William Penn Highway Thursday.
The crash occurred just after 7 a.m.
Murrysville Police say the van, operated by A.J. Myers & Sons, Inc. transportation company, was transporting five students to Franklin Regional High School when it slammed into the Eat 'n Park at The Village of Murrysville Shopping Plaza.
The Superintendent of Franklin Regional School District says three of the five students were taken to Forbes Regional Hospital in Monroeville out of an "abundance of caution."
Forbes Regional Hospital says those students have been treated and released.
Police say the van driver was not injured, nor was anyone in the restaurant hurt.
The investigation into the accident continues.
"Upon speaking with the school bus driver, there was a vehicle that had put on the brakes in front of him, and he tried to avoid the collision, and instead of hitting the brakes, he hit the gas, and the van subsequently went into the building," said Murrysville Police Chief Tom Seefeld.
No customers were inside the Eat 'n Par at time, only employees.
Eat 'n Park Restaurants spokesperson Courtney Caprara has provided this statement about the incident.
"Our Eat 'n Park restaurant in Murrysville will remain closed temporarily as a result of being struck by a school van earlier this morning. We will reopen when cleared to do so by local safety officials. No team members or guests inside the restaurant were hurt. We wish the students and the van driver a very quick recovery.
