School Bus, SUV Collide In Homewood
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A local mother was shaken up this morning when the school bus her daughter was riding in collided with an SUV in Homewood.
Her phone rang, and she heard the words no parent ever wants to hear.
"My bus was in an accident. I need you to come get me," said Cecelia Foreman, the mother of one of the students on the bus.
Foreman's daughter is a student at Propel Braddock Hills. She was one of about a dozen kids on the Monarch Bus headed to school around 7 a.m. Tuesday morning.
Eyewitnesses say the bus was broadsided when the driver of a GMC Jimmy ran a red light at the intersection of Bennett and Oakwood Streets.
People jumped from their cars to get everyone off the bus.
"I do appreciate it, and I do thank them," said Foreman.
The SUV hit the door of the school bus operated by Monarch Student Transportation for the Pittsburgh Public Schools. Foreman said she planned to take her daughter to the emergency room.
"We're about to take her to the hospital to get her checked up on and see how we go from there," Foreman said.
But Rich Snyder, director of operations at Propel Charter Schools, tells KDKA all the kids were checked out by Pittsburgh paramedics at the scene and cleared to go to school.
When they arrived at Propel Braddock Hills, Snyder says they were checked a second time and the school nurse gave all of them a clean bill of health.
For Foreman, she says it was an answer to her prayers that there wasn't more damage or severe injuries in the accident.
"Got to pray every day," she says.
