School Bus Overturns In Washington Co.
AMWELL TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – A school bus accident in Washington County sent over two dozen students to the hospital this morning; but fortunately, none of the youngsters suffered any serious injuries.
Twenty-six members of Trinity High School's band were headed to a performance at Trinity South Elementary School when the bus tipped over in the 2200-block of South Main Street Extension in Amwell Township around 10 a.m.
Police believe the right wheels of the bus went off the road while going around a bend. At that time, the bus hit a utility pole and a hillside before rolling onto its side.
The children only suffered minor injuries, but were taken to area hospitals as a precaution.
Beverly Handra's 15-year-old daughter, Julia, was on the bus. Handra told KDKA-TV's Mary Robb Jackson that the school called her right away to let her know that her daughter was OK. Though she was shaken up, the teenager suffered only a bruised cheek in the accident.
Handra says she feels very lucky that things weren't a lot worse.
