1 Killed, 17 Injured In Somerset Co. Crash
UPPER TURKEYFOOT TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – Route 281 in Somerset County reopened late Wednesday after a fatal crash between a school bus and Pepsi delivery truck.
State police say the truck crossed the center line and crashed head-on into the bus, which had 23 people on board.
The driver of the truck was killed, and six people on the bus, including four students, were flown to hospitals. The bus driver and an aide were among that group.
Seventeen other students with minor injuries were driven by ambulance or school bus to Somerset Hospital, and by late Wednesday all of those students had been released, according to a hospital spokesperson.
The bus was taking students from a vocational school to Turkeyfoot Valley High School.
The district immediately began calling parents of the students who were on the bus.
State police report that injured students helped out fellow students who were more seriously hurt.
Investigators will look at the truck's brakes as well as a number of other factors to try to determine what caused the crash.
