Santorum Thanks Supporters In Steubenville
STEUBENVILLE, Ohio (KDKA) -- Late Tuesday night, the race for delegates in Ohio was neck-and-neck between Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum.
An enthusiastic crowd of about 400 to 500 supporters gathered to cheer on Santorum at the Steubenville High School gymnasium.
His remarks seemed to ignite the crowd when he spoke about his reasons for running.
"We are a great country because we believe that rights don't come from the government, but as in our founding document, the Declaration Independence says, our rights come to us from our Creator," Santorum said.
People at the event who spoke to KDKA-TV say they support Santorum's conservative social views.
"We have to have major social reform or else in 30, 40, years this country's going to be in even more horrible shape than it already is," Neil Lynskey, of Hopedale, Ohio, said.
"My support is that he's the only one that represents American ideals right now," Randy Rhoades, of Swissvale, added. "I see Mr. Romney supporting a lot of socialist goals."
Super Tuesday is not the end of the road in the race for the GOP nomination. Only about 4,000 votes are separating Romney and Santorum.
