Santorum: President Obama Providing Very Poor Leadership

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - It has been a year since Barack Obama was re-elected as president, and it has been year that has seen the divide between the Democrats and the Republicans deepen.

Both sides blame the other, and adding his voice to the chorus is former Pa. Sen. Rick Santorum.

"Leadership does set a tone. I used to complain to George Bush that he was too magnanimous frankly with his detractors. Because when he would go out and complain about things that happened in the Congress, he would always say 'the Congress.' He refused to talk about any single member of Congress," Santorum said.

Santorum said the lack of leadership falls squarely on President Obama and his failure to negotiate.

"In Washington, D.C, if you can't sit dwn in a room without everybody round and actually talk offline about how we're going to get there without having it show up and then backtracking, then you can't get anything done. And that's really the problem here. He's provided really poor leadership, very divisive leadership and you can't trust him when you sit down to negotiations," Santorum said.

On criticism of the Tea Party, he said blaming that faction of the GOP is "baloney."

Currently, Santorum is the CEO of a film production and distribution company, but what about his political future?

"This week I was on the 'Colbert Report' and he took out a hula hoop and threw it on the ground and handed me a hat and said, 'Are you going to throw your hat in the ring?' And I said, 'No. it's too far to throw the hat.' And right now, it's just too far away to throw the hat. It's at least a year away from me making a decision like that," Santorum said.

Santorum said his family will play a key role in his decision.

"After you put a family through a presidential campaign, to turn around and do it again is a big ask and right now, we're just not there yet," Santorum said.

You can hear the rest of what Santorum had to say on this weekend's edition of the KD-PG Sunday Edition.

It airs Sunday morning at 8:30 a.m. right here on KDKA-TV.
