Sandy Forces Some Communities To Postpone Halloween Festivities
BELLEVUE (KDKA) -- Superstorm Sandy has already put a damper on a longtime tradition.
Most local communities have had to postpone trick-or-treating until Saturday night.
Shops and homes in Bellevue are all decked out for Oct. 31.
But Police Sgt. Mike Hudson says the little ghouls, goblins, ghosts and gremlins will have to put their Halloween on hold for an extra couple days.
"If the weather does hold up, and we have the downed power lines, if trees are coming down - it won't be safe to be outside," he said. "It would be best for everyone to have their Halloween activities inside that night and wait for Saturday, where hopefully it's going to be nicer weather."
Neighboring West View has also postponed trick or treating till 6 p.m. Saturday night.
Cancellation of the annual parade has left Borough Manager Bruce Fromlak with a room full of gift bags for would-be participants.
"We encourage individuals that did register last Thursday and Friday at West View Borough to come into the borough building and please pick up their candy bag or treat bag," he says.
