Sandusky's Preliminary Hearing Set For Tomorrow
BELLEFONTE (KDKA) -- More than a month after officials filed dozens of child sex abuse charges against Jerry Sandusky, the former Penn State defensive coordinator will get his day in court tomorrow.
Sandusky was arrested last month on 40 counts of molesting eight boys over a 15-year span. Late last week, state police arrested Sandusky on new charges based on the testimony of two new accusers.
He is scheduled to face his preliminary hearing tomorrow; and officials say he will not make a plea agreement before the hearing.
At a brief hearing at the Centre County Courthouse in Bellefonte this afternoon, a judge said he would allow media requests to allow tweeting and real-time texts and e-mail updates from courtroom.
The courtroom seats about 200 people and about 100 are expected to be filled by reporters.
The charges reportedly follow a two-year grand jury investigation after a teenage boy said Sandusky had inappropriate contact with him over a four-year period, beginning when the boy was just 10 years old. During the investigation, older allegations also surfaced that Penn State police investigated inappropriate touching in a shower.
Among those expected to testify are Mike McQueary, who testified before a grand jury that he saw Sandusky engaged in a sexual act with a boy in a shower inside the team's locker room in 2002.
There are new reports emerging saying McQueary told different variations of what he allegedly saw.
Either way, Sandusky's attorney Joe Amendola says it will be a tough day in court for his client.
"He's not looking forward to this," Amendola added. "This is going to be a one-sided, one-sided proceeding."
Sandusky has denied the charges; and his wife issued a statement last week saying she believed in her husband's innocence and was devastated by "these false accusations."
KDKA-TV will be at Sandusky's preliminary hearing. Andy Sheehan and Harold Hayes will have live team coverage of the case.
