Salmonella Outbreak Linked To Ground Turkey
PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) -- Federal officials say one person has died and dozens of people have gotten sick from salmonella poisoning that appears to be linked to ground turkey.
According to a report from the Associated Press, more than 70 people in 26 states have become sick from the same strain of the disease.
Officials say the salmonella strain is resistant to many commonly prescribed antibiotics.
The illnesses date back to March, but there has not yet been a recall of turkey.
On Monday, the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said that cultures of ground turkey from four retail locations between March 7th and June 27th showed contamination.
The agency did not name the retailers or the manufacturers.
No details about the person who died have been released.
Officials with the Allegheny County Health Department report that four cases have been found in Allegheny County.
The Associated Press reports that Ohio and Michigan have had the most illnesses, with 10 cases each.
