Ryan Clark: Polamalu Was Face of Defense
PITTSBURGH (KDKA 93-7 The Fan)- Bob Pompeani spoke with former Steeler and current ESPN analyst Ryan Clark about the retirement of Troy Polamalu.
"He was the face of the defense; he was the face of the team," Clark said. "Troy was one of the very few players who had face recognition in the NFL. He was kind of able, through his play and through the type of person he was, to transcend just being an on the field superstar."
Clark recalled Polamalu's ability to make a big play at a critical time in a game.
"He wasn't a guy who ever shied away from making plays, or a guy who ever shied away from trying to be great, and that's what made him a future Hall of Famer," Clark said.
Clark said that there will never be a draft pick at safety who reminds people of Polamalu.
"There won't be another one, and I think that's what separates him and makes him the most special guy who ever played the position," Clark said.
