Rumor Leads To Investigation At Uniontown High School

UNIONTOWN (KDKA) -- Uniontown police were investigating allegations of misconduct by a teacher at Uniontown High School.

Police determined there was not any criminal activity; however, a parent is speaking out, angry about how the investigation was carried out.

A Uniontown police school resource officer questioned numerous students at the high school Monday who they believed might have knowledge about an inappropriate relationship between a teacher and a student.

Uniontown School District Superintendent Dr. Charles Machesky said there were no formal allegations.

The interviews were conducted one at a time and in the presence of the school principal.

A parent familiar with the investigation, whose child was interviewed, is angry that he wasn't notified by the school.

KDKA is not identifying the teacher or the nature of the investigation since police determined there was no criminal activity.

Dr. Machesky says in today's day and age, schools have a responsibility to investigate all claims of misconduct by a teacher to the fullest extent.

Uniontown police say the children who were interviewed yesterday were not suspected of any crime, so no parental consent was needed.

Uniontown police say as far as they are concerned this case is closed. School officials say they want to take this a step farther to find out who is starting these rumors and why.
