Former MLB Pitcher Roy Halladay Killed In Plane Crash Off Florida Coast
PITTSBURGH (CBS/AP) – Authorities have confirmed that former Major League Baseball pitcher Roy Halladay died in a small plane crash in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Florida.
Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco said during a news conference that Halladay's ICON A5 went down about noon Tuesday near Holiday, Florida.
The sheriff's office marine unit responded to the downed plane and found Halladay's body. No survivors were found.

The Philadelphia Phillies released a statement about his death saying:
"We are numb over the very tragic news about Roy Halladay's untimely death. There are no words to describe the sadness that the entire Phillies family is feeling over the loss of one of the most respected human beings to ever play the game."
Halladay previously posted pictures and videos of himself flying his new ICON A5 light-sport aircraft on his Twitter account.

Halladay is a former eight-time All-Star pitcher for the Toronto Blue Jays (1998-2009) and the Philadelphia Phillies (2010-2013). He won the Cy Young Award in 2003 and 2010.
Halladay had two children with his wife, Brandy.
