Route 51 Crash Suspect To Face DUI Charge
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Several people were injured in a string of car accidents on Sunday in Pleasant Hills and police said the man responsible is no stranger to law enforcement.
It was an example of motorized mayhem on Route 51, which left 10 people injured and one man in the hospital facing numerous charges.
"I don't know how many different vehicles, but he was just bouncing off all of them. It was something to see," Dillon Gentry said.
According to police, 29-year-old Stephen Lee Roberts tore down and across Route 51 in his pickup truck, hitting everything in his path in and around Southland Shopping Center.
"This gentleman slammed into her head-on and he reversed back a little and sped off," Ezekiel Dattadeen said.
He was finally stopped by police about a half-mile south of the destruction. In all, 10 people were injured.
According to police, Roberts was drunk and apparently sorry.
"What are you doing drunk driving anyway at three something on Mother's day - a Sunday – drunk? You're out on the street just running into to people. This is not a video game you can't just press start again if you hit somebody and hurt them," Dattadeen said.
The Finleyville man has an extensive traffic and criminal record.
In 2003, he pleaded guilty to:
- Driving with a suspended license.
- Careless driving
- Accident damage to unattended vehicle
- Abandoning a vehicle on public property
- Public drunkenness
- Disorderly conduct
- Harassment
He is expected to face a list of charges from this most recent incident including, driving under the influence.
