Route 28 Re-Opens After Vehicle Accident Seriously Injures One

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Route 28 southbound re-opened early Thursday morning after a vehicle accident during Wednesday's evening rush hour seriously injured one person, sending them to the hospital.
The 29-year-old man, from Carnegie, was hurt when his Ford Mustang was struck. He was taken to Allegheny General Hospital to be treated.
There were no other reported injuries.
State Police say a tractor-trailer truck and three cars collided on the inbound lanes of Route 28 near Delafield Road in Fox Chapel. It happened around 5 p.m., and the road did reopen until after midnight.
The crash happened when a truck driver from Mississippi was unable to stop his tractor trailer, which was carrying a full load. He rear-ended the Mustang and the chain reaction continued.
The inbound side of 28 South had been temporarily closed throughout Wednesday evening near Fox Chapel Road and the Highland Park Bridge. Those lanes re-opened early Thursday morning, and traffic was moving smoothly for the morning rush.
Pennsylvania State Police in Kittanning are handling the ongoing investigation.
