Route 22 Reopens After Fatal Accident
BURRELL TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- A deadly accident closed a stretch of Route 22 in Indiana County in both directions this morning; but the highway has since re-opened to traffic.
Indiana County dispatchers confirmed that the coroner was called to the scene of the crash near Blairsville shortly before noon.
The accident, which claimed the lives of two people and injured a third, happened when a car headed east on Route 22 ran into the back of a coal truck at the Palmerton Exit.
Robert Edward Bair, 40, the driver of the car, and his mother, 63-year-old Patricia Bair died in the crash. Another passenger, identified as 63-year-old Robert Maxwell Bair, was flown to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. He was wearing a seatbelt.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
