Victim In Fatal Derry Twp. Crash Identified

DERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa. (KDKA) -- One person was killed in a crash in Westmoreland County on Friday.
The accident happened just before 5 p.m. on Route 217 in Derry Township.
The victim, 77-year-old Robert L. Cochran of Blairsville, died at the scene.
Cochran was driving south on Route 217 when a car crossed the center line and struck his vehicle head-on. Cochran was entrapped in the vehicle and suffered multiple injuries.
According to the coroner, Cochran was wearing a seat belt, his air bags did deploy and cell phone use was not believed to have been a factor in the accident.
Two others were injured, including the passenger in Cochran's vehicle.
The passenger in Cochran's vehicle was flown by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital. The driver of the other car suffered only minor injuries.
