Sexual Assaults Put Ross Residents On Alert

ROSS TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- Residents in Ross Township are on edge after two sexual assaults in three days.

The latest assault happened around 6:30 a.m. Monday when a woman walking her dog returned home to find the armed attacker in her home at the Cascade Apartments.

A similar attack happened Saturday morning at the Woodhawk Club several miles away.

Residents say they're worried that no arrests have been made, so they're taking extra precautions.

"I'm very frightened right now," Mary Rymers said. "A lot of people I know are going to go out and get pepper spray and actually you can get a Taser."

For some, the shock is that it happened in their community.

"I think it's alarming for being in the North Hills area," Amanda Manaso added. "I moved here because I thought it was a safe place to live."

While neither of the assaults has taken place near a school, the North Hills School District posted a warning on its website telling students not to walk to or from bus stops alone.

The suspect, described as a black male, may be driving a dark blue Ford Expedition with possible driver's side damage.

Residents say they will remain vigilant.

"If you have a routine where you leave yourself open to an attack or something negative happening, you need to change your routine, lock your doors and just make sure that you have the ability to stay safe," Bill Bruni said.

Ross Township police say they're following every possible lead; but they're asking for help from the public.

Police released surveillance video yesterday of a vehicle that they hope may help lead them to a suspect. Investigators believe the suspect in Saturday's assault may have been driving a dark blue Ford Expedition XLT that may have had chrome mirrors and damage to the driver's side.

Police are hoping that someone who may have seen the car or the suspect in the attacks will call police at 412-931-9070.
