Ross Twp. Hit-And-Run Suspect Arrested
ROSS TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- A West View man was arrested late Wednesday night and is now facing charges in connection with a hit-and-run accident that left a woman injured outside of a pub in Ross Township late last week.
According to Ross Township police, 24-year-old Matthew Bomba was taken into custody by Avalon police officers.
"We had two police officers from Avalon Borough that spotted a vehicle that matched the description that we released as part of this hit-and-run case," Det. Brian Kohlhepp, of the Ross Township Police Department, said. "They were able to speak with the operator of the car and identify the driver."
Police say the two officers saw the vehicle on Ohio River Boulevard.
Investigators say Bomba was "cooperative and apologetic" at the time of this arrest.
"He just, he advised that it was an accident and that he was frightened by the incident, so he left," said Det. Kohlhepp. "He did make statements that he was apologetic for the incident."
The accident happened last Friday night when officials say the victim, a 72-year-old woman, was crossing Babcock Boulevard around 10:30 p.m. after attending a private party at Sieb's Pub.
"It just happened so quickly, we had a nice party going on upstairs," said Judy Seibert, the owner of Sieb's Pub. "I was totally upset. This lady was an elderly lady and [was] just crossing the road and evidently there was only one headlight, I was told that. So, I don't know if the guy didn't see but he actually knew he hit something because he slowed down."
Earlier this week, police released a description of a white Kia Optima with front-end damage.
Bomba was taken to the Allegheny County Jail. He is facing charges of accidents involving death/personal injury and speeding.
He is scheduled to be arraigned later today.
The victim suffered a broken leg and needed 40 stitches. She continues to recover from her injuries.
