Ross Twp. 19-Year-Old Allegedly Assaulted 3-Year-Old

ROSS TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- A 19-year-old from Ross Township is accused of sexually assaulting a 3-year-old.

Ross Township police say Jeffery Neel is now in police custody.

"This was not a random act at a park," Ross Township Police Sgt. Benjamin Dripps said. "This was someone that was in the home that the child had access to on a regular occurrence and it's graphic and it's horrific."

According to police, Neel is accused of sexually assaulting a 3-year-old girl while he was babysitting several children at a home on Jacks Run Road in Ross Township back in April.

Neel was at his sister-in-law's house. She was babysitting several children. Neel was left alone with the children for a short period of time.

"The officers in this department, the detectives, they have families, they have children, nieces, nephews and what have you and quite frankly it's a very scary situation," Dripps said.

The 3-year-old was treated at Children's Hospital. Some of the other children who were there were the ones who told their parents about what happened. Police immediately began their investigation and filed the charges Friday.

Neel is facing a list of charges, including sexual assault, indecent assault, corruption of minors and endangering the welfare of children.
Police say he is at the Allegheny County Jail being held on $75,000 bond.
