ROOT Sports Analyst Kent Tekulve Breaks Down Buccos
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) -- Former Pittsburgh Pirates and current post-game analyst on ROOT Sports Pittsburgh Kent Tekulve joined Seibel, Starkey and Miller to talk about the Pirates one-third of the way into the season, and what to do with Paul Maholm given the club option he has for next year of $9.75 million.
Teke said a lot of the Maholm situation will probably be decided based on where the team stands around the trade deadline. According to Teke, there is a time and place where you trade veterans to load up on prospects, but at some point you need to tell the players they're doing their part, and ownership needs to hold up their end of the bargain.
We also ask Teke about Josh Harrison's major league debut last night against the Mets, and what it was like for him when he made his debut.
With the Pirates getting ready to take on the Phillies after wrapping things up with the Mets, we wrapped things up with Teke asking him about Sept. 29, 1978 when the Pirates took on the Phillies in a doubleheader needing to take both games in order to have a shot at the division title.
