Rooney: Steelers Would Like To Keep Antonio Brown "For The Long-Term"
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- For the Pittsburgh Steelers, wide receiver Antonio Brown is an integral part of the team.
But that leads to an interesting situation because Brown voiced his displeasure last off-season with his current contract.
So, KDKA's Bob Pompeani spoke with Steelers President Art Rooney II about future monies and Brown's future with the team.
Pompeani: There are those who think he's out-performed his contract, including himself. Do you think he's out-performed his contract?
Rooney: "When you look back at when we signed him, it was a fair contract at the time, and so that's the way we look at it. Obviously, Antonio is another player that is continuing to have a bright future, and we'd like to keep him on the team for the long-term. So, whenever we get to the contract situation, we'll have to address it."

Pompeani: Your policy has been tried and true. And that is you wait until a guy has a year left if you're going to start negotiating. In his case, he has two years, would you ever make an exception for a player?
Rooney: "We've had a number of policies that I think have served us well, and so that's the way we'll approach this thing. Obviously, he's a special player, and I don't like to try to predict what we'll do because in contract situations, you know, there's two sides to everything you do, so we'll see how that plays out."
