Roethlisberger Sets Yardage Record In Defeat
NASHVILLE (93-7 THE FAN/AP) -- Securing a place in franchise history might have been cause for celebration by Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger were it his team that was celebrating Thursday night.
Roethlisberger went 24-of-40 for 363 yards with a touchdown and an interception to give him a franchise-record 28,066 yards passing. Terry Bradshaw had 27,989 from 1970-83.
"We're not scoring enough points, and we're not making the play when we need to," Roethlisberger said. "It doesn't matter to me. The loss is the loss, and that's what matters."
Big Ben also downplayed the patchwork nature of the offense as injuries continued to mount for the Steelers. Running backs Rashard Mendenhall and Isaac Redman left with leg injuries (Mendenhall appeared to have aggravated his previously injured Achilles), while linemen Maurkice Pouncey and Marcus Gilbert were also forced out with lower-body ailments.
"We don't make excuses," he said. "One more completion from me, and [Shaun Suisham] can make [his final field goal attempt]."
