Roethlisberger On Bell: 'I Hope We Don't Run Him Into The Ground"
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - Following the teams 35-32 loss to the New Orleans Saints, Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger joined The Cook and Poni Show for his weekly Ben Roethlisberger Show airing on Tuesday's at 11 a.m.
One of the few bright spots for the Steelers in their loss was the play of running back Le'Veon Bell who rushed for 95 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries and caught eight passes for another 159 yards.
Roethlisberger talked about the production they've gotten this year from their lead back but cautioned about the large workload that has been asked of him.
"I don't know of a running back since I've been here that has been able to basically play every single snap," Roethlisberger said. "I think that speaks volumes for his conditioning and the work this that he has put in. But you do have to be careful. I hope we don't run him into the ground, if you will. It's that stretch of the year where everyone is going to give it everything they have and I know he probably wants to be in there every single play because that's the kind of player he is."
Ben also talked about the loss of of Brett Keisel. Keisel was ruled out for the year by the team Monday.
"It was a tough one. He is one of the toughest people I know and to see him in so much pain really broke my heart." Roethlisberger said. "This will be a momentum for him if he so chooses to want to work and comeback and give it another go around."
Roethlisberger talked about the loss to the Saints, and how disappointed he was with his play during the game.
"Disappointment and disbelief in myself that I just didn't play well and for no apparent rhyme or reason," Roethlisberger said. "I was disappointed that I didn't make all the throws that I wanted to make and give our guys chances to make plays. You gotta win the home games. I mean how important that game was to us, I just felt like i let so many people down and that was probably the hardest thing after the game."
Ben did hit his throwing hand on the helmet off one of the Saints players, and talked about the injury.
"It's just one of those things that happens to quarterbacks a lot. We hit peoples hands, helmets and shoulder pads when we throw," Roethlisberger said. "I have had things happen like that before and it's not an excuse. you got to play through it. It's not as big of a deal as I think people probably made it to be."
When it comes to the playoffs, the AFC North and entire AFC is loaded with talent, according to Ben: "It's do or die now."
