Roethlisberger Breaks Thumb, Not Expected To Miss Time

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The Pittsburgh Steelers are on a bye this week. As it turns out, the timing could not be any better.

Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger announced that he has a broken thumb, but does not expect to miss any time.

"We'll put a splint on it and get prepared for the game against Kansas City just like we would if we were playing this week," Roethlisberger said.

The broken thumb is on his throwing hand, which he also broke during the 2005 season.

"Luckily, we have the bye week. I don't have to throw right now. I don't have to throw for seven days or [whenever we have to practice again.] So, that will be a good time for it to rest. The big thing is just getting used to throwing with a splint on it again and a glove on, which I've done before," Roethlisberger said.

Roethlisberger suffered the injury during the Steelers' 24-17 win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.

He said it did hurt to throw, but the biggest problem was squeezing the ball.
