Roenick: Pens' Leaders Will Need To Step Up After Olympics
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) -- Former NHL star and current NBC Sports NHL analyst Jeremy Roenick joined The Fan Morning Show on Thursday to talk about the Penguins, the NHL, the league's Stadium Series, and the 2014 Winter Olympics.
Roenick told the guys that everyone involved with the games are very excited for them, but are happy when they're over because of how involved the experience is. He thinks that fans really love the atmosphere, so he's glad they're having a lot of outdoor games this year, but he'd like to see them go back to one outdoor game per year for a few years after this.
He said that he can definitely see the Penguins making the Stanley Cup finals, and he thinks that the Blackhawks/Pens Stadium Series game could end up being a preview of the Finals. He sees the Bruins as the clear major threat to the Pens, but can't see many teams in the East beating them.
He explained that post-Olympic fatigue can be a big factor once the Games are over, adding that he was "dead" for ten days coming back from the Nagano games in 1998. He thinks the Pens' leadership group - especially Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin - will be vital when it comes to steering the team through that down the stretch.
