SUV Damaged In Route 30 Rockslide
NORTH BRADDOCK (KDKA) – Retired McKeesport Fire Chief Fred Bray was driving home to McKeesport from Braddock Hills, when his SUV was damaged in a rockslide on Ardmore Boulevard in North Braddock.
Bray was in the eastbound lane near Forest Hills when several large boulders and smaller rocks came tumbling down the hillside. Some of the rocks crashed through the front windshield of Bray's 2004 Escalade, which he called his "retirement vehicle."
Ironically, he made his last vehicle payment just hours before the rockslide late Monday afternoon.
"You could see the hillside moving, as I'm looking to the right, all of a sudden, it's on me, thank the Lord, I wasn't killed," Bray said.
Bray was with the McKeesport Fire Department for 38 years. He was chief for 14 years.
"When the rocks hit, [they] knocked the gear shift right out of my hand, I was scared, I didn't know what was going on," he said.
No one was riding in the front passenger seat of Brays SUV at the time of the incident.
Police said a second vehicle was also damaged in the same rockslide, but the damage was minor.
