Robert Morris Holds Off LIU 70-69
NEW YORK (KDKA/AP) — Velton Jones and the Robert Morris Colonials (3-3) held off Long Island University (4-2) for a 1 point win on Thursday night to open the Northeast Conference.
While Long Island rallied in the second half with 43 points, the Colonials still managed to chalk up a win with a final score of 70-69.
LIU had four players who added double digits to the scoreboard, including Kyle Johnson, who led his team with 20 points.
The defending Northeast Conference champs picked up their first road win of the season when LIU missed three shots in the final 11 seconds.
C.J. Garner shot an errant jumper, which was rebounded by teammate Jamal Olasewere, who missed with 8 seconds left. He grabbed the rebound but missed another jumper with 1 second left.
Every player on the Colonials scored to contribute to the win. Jones led the team with 20 points; Coron Williams scored 13; Lijah Thompson had 12; and Charles Yann scored 10.
