West Virginia City Manager Reinstated After DUI Plea
WHEELING, W.Va. (AP) - The city manager of Wheeling, West Virginia, has been reinstated to his job after pleading guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol.
News outlets report the Wheeling City Council voted 5-2 on Tuesday to reinstate suspended City Manager Robert Herron.
Herron was sentenced Monday to 104 hours of community service. Authorities have said he was involved in a car crash in March and arrested with a blood-alcohol level of about 0.305%. The legal state limit is 0.08%. He was initially charged with aggravated DUI, but that charge was later downgraded to non-aggravated.
According to a motion approved by the council, Herron is no longer permitted access to a city vehicle, must pay for damages to the vehicle he hit and must hire an assistant city manager within 45 days. He also must consent to random alcohol testing.
