Roads Reopen After Water Main Break
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Fort Pitt Boulevard is open again after a water main break last week.
Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority officials said Sunday night that the water main was repaired. They also said that temporary road paving was done and that Wood Street and Fort Pitt Boulevard are open again.
The Mon Wharf will also reopen for parking Monday.
A water main initially broke Thursday morning and crews worked to fix the break.
By Saturday though, breaks showed up in different parts of the city, flooding the East End, closing two Port Authority stations and altering bus routes.
Sunday night, officials said the Busway East was fully reopened and would operate as normal for the Monday morning commute.
The break also uncovered a 24-inch Equitable Gas line near Bloomfield, which was a safety concern.
"Public Safety is our No. 1 concern," Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority Director of Operations Tom Palmosina said in a press release Saturday. "PWSA crew responded immediately and began isolating the leak."
Some people in the area may have experienced low water pressure during the break, but nearby Children's Hospital was not affected, officials said.
