Road Crews Brace For 1st Big Winter Test

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - While there wasn't a white Christmas in the Pittsburgh area, the day after Christmas will be a very different story.

The snow has started falling this morning and the area is bracing for up to eight inches of snow.

Many of the local roads been pretreated by either city, county or PennDOT crews in anticipation of the storm.

Should the storm dump the expected amount of snow, it would be the most significant storm in about two years.

Road crews are asking motorists to take it slow and give them some extra space because they could be dealing with a variety of conditions.

"The easiest for us to treat during that type of weather whether it be rain, snow, ice would be certainly the snow. When you get icy conditions, it makes it a lot more treacherous and harder for us to do what's necessary to do to make the roads safe," Rich Albert from North Huntingdon Public Works said
