Road Closures In Effect As Phase 3 Of Glenwood Interchange Project Begins
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Work on the third phase of the Glenwood Interchange project began Monday morning.
According to PennDOT, work on the $16.9 million project began around 7 a.m.
Crews will be working to make lightning upgrades, safety improvements, pier cap repairs and more.
As a result, new road closures are in effect.
Northbound traffic on Route 837 will be shifted into the southbound lanes near the Whemco Building. That means traffic is being reduced to a single lane in each direction in the southbound lanes. A temporary roadway and traffic signal will be in place to allow Route 837 to intersect with Route 885.
Additionally, the following ramps will close to traffic:
- Northbound Route 837 ramp to northbound Route 837 (Carson Street)
- Northbound Route 837 ramp to southbound Route 885 (Glass Run Road/Mifflin Road)
- Northbound Route 837 ramp to northbound Route 885 (Glenwood Bridge)
- Northbound Route 885 ramp to southbound Route 837 (Homestead)
The following detour will be in effect for traffic from northbound Route 837 to East Carson Street:
- Continue northbound on Route 837 past the closed ramp
- At the new, temporary intersection, turn left onto southbound Route 885
- Take the Glass Run Road/Carson Street/Homestead (to Route 837) exit
- At the stop sign turn left onto Glass Run Road
- At the traffic light, turn left onto northbound Route 885 (Mifflin Road)
- Take the ramp to North 837 Carson Street
- End detour
Work is expected to wrap up in late October before the next phase of the project begins in February of 2017.
